Rachel Burns understands the courage it takes to question what you were taught and trust yourself instead. She specializes in religious trauma recovery and nervous system healing, working with LGBTQ+ individuals and adults leaving harmful relationships and belief systems. She works experientially and relationally, helping clients navigate the messy, beautiful intersection of faith, family, and personal authenticity through present-moment awareness and real somatic experience—not just talking about your experience, but actually noticing it together in real time.
Rachel’s approach weaves together Eye-Movement Desensitization Reprocessing (EMDR), Gestalt therapy, and embodiment practices. She honors the pace of your nervous system, following what emerges rather than pushing toward outcomes, which means sessions focus on what’s alive right now, exploring how things show up in your body, your relationships, and the way you move through the world. At the heart of her work is this truth: your body holds intelligence that no external authority can provide. For those wounded by religion, Rachel knows spirituality is reclaimed through embodied experience, not intellectual understanding alone.
Rachel brings curiosity and unwavering belief to your process. Together, you’ll explore the ways you’ve adapted brilliantly to survive, the patterns you’re ready to release, and the new ways of being you want to embody. With almost a decade of clinical experience, including training at NC State University’s Prevention Services and Counseling Center and work across multiple therapeutic settings, she offers skilled witnessing and gentle structured guidance, trusting in your capacity for healing and growth.
