Julia Powers Davis (she/her) provides psychotherapy with adults and older teens (generally 16+). Before joining TPC in 2022, she completed the dual M.Div./MSW from Duke Divinity School and UNC-Chapel Hill School of Social Work. Now, Julia has over a decade of experience supporting people in a variety of settings including outpatient, inpatient, and community-based mental health care as well as faith communities and nonprofit organizations.
In therapy, Julia enjoys working with topics including but not limited to anxiety, depression, stress, trauma, OCD, ADHD, eating & body image concerns, chronic illness, life changes/transitions, young adulthood, identity, and relationships. In addition, she has particular training and experience in working with spiritual/religious concerns if a client wants to, often including topics of religious trauma, religious or moral perfectionism (sometimes called “scrupulosity”), or the impact of belief systems that may be changing or challenging.
Her therapeutic style takes an integrative approach prioritizing the therapist-client relationship while drawing on elements of Acceptance & Commitment Therapy (ACT), Mindful Self-Compassion (MSC), therapeutic writing, feminist, and narrative perspectives. Above all, Julia hopes to offer an affirming, nonjudgmental space that invites clients into self-awareness and self-compassion, practicing shifts from being hard on ourselves toward being kind to ourselves. If any of this is sounding intriguing, please feel free to reach out.
