Licensing Board | pursuing licensure as a Fee-Based Practicing Pastoral Counselor Associate, under clinical supervision of Jack McKinney, PhD, CFBPPC
Tara (she/they) is a pre-licensed pastoral counseling professional with over 2 years of clinical experience as a hospital chaplain and over 10 years of ministerial experience in church, community/non-profit, and international settings. Her Narrative approach to therapy is radically accepting of clients and seeks to explore the stories their life holds. Tara hopes to provide clients with a safe space to speak about even the scariest of experiences or feelings. And, without rushing to a false happy ending, we seek to celebrate the clients’ strengths and highlight evidence of their resilience.
In therapy with individuals and families, Tara loves to hold space with dying, grieving, and chronically ill individuals, as well as those who support them. Both formal education (a Master of Divinity from Campbell University in 2016) and personal experience as a queer woman from the South inform their support of clients who have experienced significant religious trauma. In counseling sessions with Tara, clients take the lead. Sharing about life or work stress and relationship concerns, they often recall parts of their past that feel connected with the present and are hurting. We think deeply, incorporating elements of other therapeutic approaches, like Existential and Internal Family Systems.
