Licensing Board | pursuing licensure as a Fee-Based Practicing Pastoral Counselor Associate, under clinical supervision of Jack McKinney, PhD, CFBPPC
Tara (she/they) is a pre-licensed pastoral counselor with a vocational history in chaplaincy, with over a decade of work experience in community, non-profit, and international ministry settings. They have nurtured connection, provided counsel, and supported individuals, groups, and families in a variety of settings.
From personal experience, Tara knows that walking alongside a pastoral counselor (someone with a combination of religious education, ministerial experience, and therapeutic training) can help to heal wounds in places where lived experience, spirituality, and mental health overlap. Her approach to therapy is Person-Centered— you decide the material we work on, Existential— we will likely think and talk about big, deep questions, and Narrative— we will explore the voices and authorship of the stories you tell yourself (especially the ones about yourself), because stories hold the power to frame and define our lives.
There are many reasons you might be coming to therapy. Tara might be a good fit for your goals if you’re discovering, reconciling, embracing, or mourning parts of yourself (like sexuality, faith, gender, vocation, spirituality, loss of relationships, disability/health or another part of your identity), or if you’re processing an experience, especially when it intersects with your faith system (ex: religious abuse, coming out, navigating life transitions, coping with a diagnosis, dying, caregiving, grief & loss, and family dynamics). As a queer minister raised in the Evangelical South, Tara seeks to provide a healing space that is non-judgmental and welcoming to all.
Tara also has a special passion for walking alongside individuals who are actively dying and enjoys inviting clients to reflect on the “book of their life” so far, and then consider how they want to write the final chapters of their story.
Please consider reaching out for a phone consultation if you are interested in working together.
