Leslie Gernon has been providing counseling in the Raleigh area since 2000 in outpatient, in-home, and office-based settings. She has experience working with individuals dealing with depression, anxiety, ADHD, trauma, grief and loss, identity and self-esteem, life transitions, relationships, stress, and work/life balance. She works with adult individuals and couples, ages 18 and up.

Leslie integrates her beliefs about wellness of body, mind, and spirit, as well as her interests in interpersonal communication, nature, and ecotherapy. She has a passion for helping people with big changes and pivot points in their lives. Her therapy incorporates Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), focusing techniques, person-centered therapy, and solution-focused strengths-based counseling. Leslie has a creative and compassionate approach which honors an individual’s story and strengths. She provides emotional support and introduces new ways of seeing and doing. She believes everyone has the wisdom to heal and grow, and a therapist serves as a guide to find, understand, and use different ways of thinking, choosing, acting, and speaking to increase psychological flexibility. Clients’ secular and spiritual beliefs are welcome as a part of this process.

Leslie’s own spiritual practices include meditation, mindfulness, and shinrin-yoku (forest bathing). She is also influenced by Buddhism, New Thought Christianity, Quakerism, Taoism, and wisdom-lessons taken from life itself.

Leslie graduated from UNC Chapel Hill with a Masters in Social Work in 1999. She earned her Masters in Business Administration from UNC Chapel Hill. She is a trained nature and forest therapy guide, and a Veriditas labyrinth facilitator.
